When we decided that this invention was a great idea - the process was quite laborious:
FIRST THE PATENT

- We did a patent search - studied microfilms for days - to see whether anyone had patented something similar. Time consuming - yet absolutely fascinating.
- After searching - came the abstract write up and drawings - with expert lawyers.
- Submitting to the patent office.
- Waiting - and re-submitting.
- Patent Grants.
- Fees charged over the years.

Note - the people we met who work in the Patent and Trademarks Offices are nice - friendly and incredibly helpful.
SECOND - THE PROTOTYPE
We built a sample backrest - using the finest materials available. Following this - we had three more re-produced for us.

THIRD - PRODUCTION
After searching for reliable - and cost effective means of production - we found the perfect match.
We sent one of the four samples (with confidentiality / non-disclosure contracts) to the factories - through our production manager.
A sample was then sent back. Perfect. Impeccable. Two separate plants were hired.
We put in a mass order.
FOURTH - QUALITY CHECKS
We meticulously quality checked each piece made. No - not a quicky - a true check - spending up to an hour inspecting each backrest.

Not a single thread dangling - the wood beautifully selected - matched and worked.

Frankly - they were all perfect - and we were totally exhausted. Delighted also. The backrests are superbly made.

Custom boxing was designed and made - book-mailers - master cartons - and the backrests were ready to ship.
FIFTH - OUT TO MARKET
We began selling through the very most prestigious catalogs in the United States - and similar shops - located in key cities throughout the US.
